Breaking The Fast

April 24, 2013

One of the biggest nutrition mistakes you can make is skipping out on breakfast. Breakfast is THE most important meal of the day, it is the jet fuel that gets you started in the morning. I’ve heard all the excuses, “I dont have time”, Im not hungry in the morning”, etc but you are doing yourself a disservice by skipping it. Eating a healthy breakfast increases metabolism (which helps burn fat), stabalizes blood sugar levels, boost short term memory, increases energy, etc.

Your breakfast needs to have at least a complex carb (oatmeal or whole grain bread) AND protien (turkey bacon, eggs, or protien shake) to really get the job done. These two nutrients act as a tag team, complex carbs replenish your energy stores and protien keeps you feeling fuller longer. Fruits are always a great addition because of the vitamins and minerals they have in them.

Quick Breakfast Sample:

1 Cup of oatmeal

2 Scrambled eggs with mushrooms and tomatoes

1 Banana

  1. I look forward to breakfast every morning! I love baked oatmeal (see blog for two recipes) or greek yogurt with granola. I wish more people would realize the significance of this meal.
